I’ll only know why I’ve come here after some time when what has been prepared for me to do becomes apparent – it’s a journey of faith. (Written six weeks ago).

So I’ve been here five days and already see part of what I could be doing. I don’t want to overplay the “amazing” theme, but what happened on Thursday can only be described within that category. The apartment owner took me to an office without saying who we were going to meet; it was in fact his uncle who founded a charity helping underprivileged children in the city. He and his assistant asked about my hopes for being here which initially sounded rather vague (even to me!). However, I happened to mention my involvement and support of Leket Israel, a major food provider to the poor, and to my amazement they told me that from September they would be linking up with them in Bet Shemesh to supplement their work – wow and double wow! I’ve been invited to come on board with them on this project, being classified as a “volunteer” which would qualify me to stay beyond the three months tourist visa restriction. With the financial giving expressed to me by friends in Scotland – a generous gesture was mentioned to me just hours before I left Aberdeen – I can channel resources into a wonderful program of providing meals for children at school. Reckon you’ll agree this is amazing!
