Sandwiches for Kids Programme

In Beit Shemesh two schools were chosen to be on the programme with 70 kids identified as being in real need – they likely wouldn’t have eaten before coming to school and couldn׳t afford to buy lunch at school. Leket Israel and its partner Nevet had hoped to invest in the scheme but financial constraints prevented them – they currently provide 8000 sandwiches for kids daily across Israel. Now these sandwiches are not the kind you see in the the UK, not at all, they are large bridge rolls or pitta with lots of healthy, nutritious filling, enough to keep a child satisfied through school hours.

It costs 3 shekels (70p) per sandwich x 70 kids x 180 school days, total = 37, 800 shekels or £8000, which does sound a lot of money. Keren Shemesh are willing to provide 1 shekel towards the cost, so the question is, Could we (you and I) raise the other two shekels? It works out at £32 per day, £500 per month, which sounds more attainable.

So friends, some of whom already support the work of Leket Israel, can you respond? If so, message me with your monthly contribution (preferably) or gift, plus any questions you have. Individuals, groups or congregations could be involved. I would love to see people from across Scotland and further afield taking an interest in this lovely project to feed needy kids.

Thank you in anticipation,

Duncan.
